When I sit down to have my alone time with God and write, the Lord speaks to my heart by giving me a sense of what His thoughts are, which I then translate into words. Sometimes He uses specific words which are then also more clearly spoken, but never audible. This page is a little entry about my journey with Jesus and what I’ve learned along the way.
The Lord was in the very deep water where I was afraid to go. The deep water here represents building a website and posting my personal journey with the Lord for all the world to see. I would not have gone there on my own, but His love drew me to Him and I wanted to be where He was. I would have been happy to stay in the tiny little boat where I felt safe, keeping our intimacy all to myself, but He held out his hands for me to hold onto as I stepped out of the boat and into the social media world, my website, where I now share our intimacy with others. To tell you the truth, I was comforted to know that no-one knew that I was doing this…I felt freedom to make mistakes and correct them along the way. As I follow where He leads, no matter how difficult it gets, I know He is faithful and will sustain me and feed my spirit.
Just like we need physical nourishment, our spirit also needs to be fed. Some of the ways Jesus feeds our spirit is when we spend time with Him in the Word, in prayer, through praise and worship, and also by doing the things He’s asked us to do. Among these for me are running, lifting and cross training. I’m totally not as in shape as I used to be but I’ve done enough to know how to properly do them. I’ve often wondered why God would lead me into these things, and I now know that my life’s journey will require me to be fit and healthy so that I can walk where the Lord will lead. I know I need to learn how to balance all that the Lord has put on my plate; with the Lords help I know I can do it.
Feeding our spirit and walking in our calling are very closely connected. God will feed our spirit as we walk beside Him on our journey with Him. The amount of spiritual food we eat all depends on how much time we spend with God and doing what He says. It can be once a week, every Sunday morning when we go to church, but this won’t sustain us for the whole week. When we don’t fill ourselves at His table every day, we make ourselves vulnerable by first looking at and then eating the junk food around us. Spiritual junk food is anything we put in God’s place to fill the void we have in our heart. Voids happen when we don’t spend quality time with Him every day. God created us for Himself, and it’s only Him that can satisfy our heart.
Jesus desires for you to know Him, hear Him and follow Him intimately so that He can lead you into the calling He has for your life. This calling on your life will never stop; as you follow Him, every step you take will lead you deeper into what He has for you.
Many people want to know what their calling in life is, but it’s not just one thing…it’s our journey with God that is our calling. It’s time spent each day with Him. I don’t think anyone can tell another person what their calling is, because how can they know what another person’s journey with God is? The only way we will know what our own calling is, is when we spend time with God consistently, and He will lead us in it. This will be our whole life because it’s every day that we need to follow Him. When we have a growing relationship with him and do what He’s asked us to do, then we are walking in our calling. He will always lead us in the way we should go.
Our primary calling in life is to be as close to God in relationship as possible. As we spend time with Him every day, we will learn to recognize His voice in our heart. When we recognize His voice, we can follow Him more closely. The desire to walk in our calling without taking the time to build relationship with the One who gives us our calling is pointless because it’s not our calling that gives us purpose, it’s our awesome Creator who loves us completely.
